A small semi-abstract expressive face study - based on myself - characterised by the thick paint application, gestural style and subverted colour scheme, in order to create mood. It was originally meant as my homage to the famous pre-WWII art movement called "Der Blaue Reiter" (The Blue Rider), which was very influential in the development of the German expressionism. This movement and its painters influenced the way I started to paint. Media: oil on gessoed greyboard. Metric size: 20 x 20 x 1 cm (excluding frame). This piece is framed - as per images in the carousel and video - but the frame can be removed or replaced by the buyer.
